Cheng Xin Miao

Xin Miao is an associate in the Dispute Resolution team, She has experience across a broad range of contentious matters, including general civil, construction, and commercial litigation, as well as alternative dispute resolution.

Prior to joining TSL Legal, Xin Miao practised at one of Malaysia’s leading law firms, where she was involved in complex, high value disputes across all levels of the Malaysian courts. This experience honed her advocacy and courtroom readiness, in addition to providing practical hands-on experience both in court and the arbitral tribunal. It also reinforced her commitment to a strategic, client-centered approach in managing contentious matters.

Xin Miao was a recipient of the prestigious Yayasan Khazanah Watan full scholarship, which is awarded to high‑achieving Malaysian students to pursue undergraduate studies at leading local universities. She subsequently graduated with an LL.B. (Hons) from the University of Malaya.

Xin Miao is proficient in written and spoken English, Mandarin Chinese, and Malay.

  • Assisted to represent a municipal council in a High Court civil suit and succeeded in setting aside an arbitral award, with an amount in dispute of approximately RM1,100,000. (KHN Trading & Construction v Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya [2024] CLJU 2696)
  • Assisted to represent a prominent hotelier and property owner in a High Court civil suit and succeeded in striking out the suit, with an amount in dispute of approximately RM1,000,000, with the High Court decision later being upheld in the client’s favour on appeal. (High Point Furnishing Sdn Bhd v President Hotel Sdn Bhd & Anor [2024] MLJU 3030).
  • Assisted to represent the employer on a large-scale affordable housing project in Perak valued at over RM111,000,000 to initiate AIAC arbitration proceedings to recover approximately RM35,000,000 arising from the main contractor’s significant delays and other defaults.
  • Assisted to represent an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of one of Malaysia’s largest fund management companies in a High Court civil suit to resist a claim for losses and damages of approximately RM97,000,000 filed by a terminated work package contractor, and to advance a counterclaim of about RM30,000,000.
  • Assisted to represent a solar energy farm operator in a Sessions Court civil suit to resist a claim for losses and damages of approximately RM400,000 brought by a neighboring solar farm, and to advance a counterclaim founded on negligence and breach of duty of care with an amount in dispute of approximately RM800,000.
